주름 가득한 이마 아래로, 신의 본질에 할 말을 잃은, 검은 눈만 꿈뻑거립니다.
그의 왼발은 잔뜩 힘이 들어갔는지 물위에서 간당간당 예수님의 손길을 기다릴 뿐입니다.
샌들의 끈을 슬그머니 풀면서도 여전히 한손으론 그 끈을 붙잡고 있는 다른 제자들과 함께,
머리를 부여잡거나,
깊은 생각에 빠져든 제자들의 얼굴들에서
그들은 사랑의 충격을 몸소 체험했습니다.
"사랑은, 우리의 것이 아니었어..."
요한복음은 마태/마가/누가복음이 알려주는 교회의 예식,
그러니까 침례와 성만찬을
제도적 방식으로 알려주지 않습니다.
오히려 요한복음은 다른 모습으로 교회가 실천해야할 예식의 모습을 말합니다.
"너희도 서로 발을 씻기는 것이 옳으니라."
사랑이, 우리의 것이 아니었기 때문에,
이제 그 사랑의 법으로 살아가는 것만이 새새명의 사명입니다.
