Jerusalem

진실과열정 2019. 4. 27. 22:56

"Jerusalem was one of the old Bronze Age cities that lingered on as a modest settlement during the Early Iron Age. The name 'Jerusalem'(yerushalim) means something like 'founded by Shalem,' Shalem being a Canaanite god best known from the Ugaritic texts. (Solomon's name may also derive from this god's name. From the Amarna Letters, we know the name of one of the kings who had ruled Jerusalem during the Late Bronze Age. This king's name, Abdi-Heba, suggests that he may have been of Hurrian stock. Ezekiel preserves a tradition that the people of Jerusalem were of Hittite and Amoritie stock (Ezek 16:45). According to 2 Samuel 5:6-8, David took the city from the Jebusites, identified otherwise only as 'the inhabitants of the land.' The Jebusites were apparently a local group whose name was derived from Jebus, a landmark somewhere in the immediate vicinity of Jerusalem."
