"The Messiah was a descendant of the great king, but equipped with special gifts. As the transcendence of the notions increased, the ruler of the end time became a being who attained heavenly origin and rank; here the difficulty of maintaining his Davidic origin correspondingly increased. Therefore later eschatology of all shades always speaks of the 'appearance' of the anointed one; it never says that he is born. ... [J]esus wanted to refute the dogmatics of the scribes from scripture itself and with the Davidic sonship do away with the Messiah."
