고대 셈족어권의 '왕권'과 종교에 대하여, 우가릿 신화문헌을 기초로 한, 새로운 이해를 요구하고 나선 Nicholas Wyatt (2010: 61-81)는 이렇게 말합니다:

one of the great benefits of the Ugaritic evidence is its window into the ritual life of the king, of which we catch only glimpses in the biblical material. ... [W]e should start from the realities of ancient practice. ... While there has always been a body of scholarship, usually characterized as devotional rather than dispassionate, which saw Christ at every turn in the narrative, but above all in the hymnic and prophetic books of the Hebrew Bible, there has also been a strong current that saw this as essentially eisegetical and thus spurious so far as understanding the 'original' meaning of the tradition was concerned. ... In any event, by careful scrutiny of the text, and openness to analogous and cognate materials in the world outside Judah and in Israel, it seems increasingly likely that we should see the biblical material as organically related to the broader cultural pattern, rather than see the pattern as something alien."
